Hello, I’m an illustrator/artist based in Scotland. I trained in painting at Glasgow School of Art and California Institute of the Arts, and in the late 1990s I sharpened my eye for precision under a master portraitist at De La Rue — the UK’s official banknote printers. A surreal apprenticeship, but it set the tone: discipline and disruption in equal measure.

I first made a name in the early 2000s as a comic artist skewering Scotland’s club scene, with work featured across three consecutive Edinburgh International Festivals. From there, things got interesting — a stint as a court artist, designing a Manga Café at London County Hall, then deep dives into TV, theatre, and animation.

I’ve built experimental puppetry and animation projects backed by the Jim Henson Foundation, L’Institut international de la marionnette, and the Scottish Arts Council, and engineered giant puppets for theatrical productions that toured Scotland and beyond.

In 2008 I launched Blackrock Productions in Glasgow, making original content for clients including the BBC. In 2013 I founded Hayburn Studios and became lead storyboard artist on Outlander — a role I held for seven seasons.

My work has taken me across the Atlantic too. I helped launch Animation Nights New York in 2016, and by 2019 I was producing artwork and campaigns for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the largest theatre company in the US serving 400,000 people annually.

These days I work across illustration, animation, concept art and muralism — most recently as a guest artist at Fashion Institue of Design and Marketing in Los Angeles. Always moving, always experimenting, and stubbornly uninterested in standing still.
